Centos hangs at “IBM TrackPoint firmware” on Hyper-V R2!
Posted in Virtual Machine Manager | 4 Comments | 9,770 views | 03/11/2009 20:45

If you install Centos 5.4 on Hyper-V R2 with Linux IC, it could hangs on reboots. We installed Linux Integration Components v2 and Linux Mouse Driver from Citrix. But we couldn’t solve the problem at the beginning.

VMBus: SynIC version: 1
IBM TrackPoint firmware: 0x01, buttons: 0/0
input: TPPS/2 IBM TrackPoint as /class/input/input1

part1

Then I realized something, Hyper-V doesn’t support 4 CPU in Linux Machines. So I switched the CPUs 4 to 1:

part2

And Wolaaaaa!

part3

This solved all problems. Have fun!

The number of CPUs available doesn’t seem to have much to do with it. We’re running CentOS 5.5 x86 under Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Hyper-V with the latest Linux IC and it doesn’t matter how many cores we give to the VMs, they will eventually hang on boot…about 30% of the time (it is intermittant). Then again we’re giving either 2 or 4 CPUs to each VM, never just 1.

Hi,
Has anyone solved this issue? I have set 1 CPU, but it hangs on serial port something.
Thank You!
