DPM 2010 ile Hyper-V yedekleri farklı host’a dönülebiliyor!

Evet, mükemmel bir haber daha! DPM 2007′de almış olduğunuz sanal sunucu yedekleri, sadece yedek aldığınız sunucu üzerine dönülebiliyordu. Bazı trickler yaparak, sunucu üzerine döndürebiliyordunuz fakat şöyle bir düşünün. Ana sunucunuz patladıysa, sanal sunucunun yedeğini bir yerlere dönebilmeniz için illa ana sunucunun baştan kurulup, System State yedeğinin dönülmesini mi bekleyeceksiniz? İşte bu Microsoft’a da saçma gelmiş olacak ki DPM 2010′da bunu değiştirmişler. Zaten DPM 2007, Microsoft’un en mantıksızca hazırlanmış bir yazılımıydı benim için. Mükemmel bir teknolojiye sahip olmasına rağmen (VSS), detaylıca düşünülmemesinden midir yoksa gerçekten akıl edilemiyor muydu bilmiyorum ama DPM 2007 SP1′ye kadar bir çok şey eksikti. Fakat şimdi DPM 2010 ile birlikte, A sunucusundan aldığınız Hyper-V yedeğini, B sunucusu üzerine Restore edebiliyorsunuz. Bu da size zamandan tasarruf sağlıyor. Umarım Exchange 2010 için de önemli güncellemeler yapmışlardır.

Woo hoo! Data Protection Manager 2010 (Zinger) Beta çıktı!

Uzun zamandır aldığım en sevindirici haberlerden bir tanesi kuşkusuz Data Protection Manager 2010′un bugün Beta sürümünün yayınlanması oldu. Aynı küçük bir çocuğun ilk oyuncağına kavuşması gibi bir şey olacak benim için. Uzun zamandır DPM 2010′u kucaklayabilmek için bekliyordum. İlk işim Radore Vxeon performans serisi sunucularımız üzerine Beta sürümünü kurmak olacak.

Şuan iç yapımızda Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 ve Forefront Threat Managment Gateway (aka ISA 2010) kullanmaktayız. Sanırım Data Protection Manager 2010 (aka Zinger), şirket içindeki üçüncü Beta uygulamamız olacak. Her ne kadar Microsoft yapıya dahil etmemizi tavsiye etmese de FTMG’yi dahil etmekte bir problem görmedik açıkcası. En önem verdiğim noktalardan bir tanesi, Powershell ile DPM’i ne kadar etkin bir şekilde kullanabilecek olmamız. Eğer Powershell ile kolay bir şekilde yönetimi sağlayabilirsek, herkes için mükemmel olacak demektir. DPM 2010′un yeni gelen özelliklerini ve download linkini sonraki yazılarımda paylaşacağım.

Check your firewall and server status.

You may get this error when you try to do consistency check:

Check your protected files. Maybe some of your protected files corrupted or deleted. Try to restore newest files and re-try consistency check.

Data Protection Manager 2007 inceleme ve izlenimlerim

Sanırım biraz haksızlık etmiş olabilirim DPM’e. Bugün yapmış olduğum lab denemelerinde, gayet iyi bir performans çıkardı. Yalnız gerçek yapı, hiç bir zaman lab ortamı gibi olamıyor malesef. Çünkü gerçek bir verimerkezinde, her ne kadar sunucular local’den de bağlı olsalar bile veri transfer hızları, lab ortamındaki sanal sunuculardaki gibi olmuyor. DPM ile yapmış olduğum denemeler özel Dell Blade sunucular üzerinde gerçekleştirildi ve Blade’in bağlı olduğu Dell EqualLogic iSCSI SAN sunucusu sayesinde, senkronizasyon ve recovery point’ler çok kısa bir süre içersinde, hatasız bir şekilde oluşturuldu. Gerçek yapıda ise senkronizasyon ve recovery point oluşturma sırasında genelde hatalar ile karşılaşıyoruz. Bu da almanız gereken hayati yedeklerin, zamanında, düzgün olarak alınamamasına neden oluyor.

Yalnız gerçek yapıdaki sorunları geçersek, DPM ile Exchange Server çok hızlı bir şekilde recover edilebiliyor. Ayrıca Exchange Server üzerindeki Recovery Protection Group sayesinde, geri dönülen yedek üzerinden, sadece tek kullanıcının mailbox’ını bile dönebiliyorsunuz ki bu gerçekten güzel bir çözüm. Aynı şekilde DPM ile alınan System State yedekleri ile tamamen patlamış olan Active Directory Domain Controller sunucusunu ayağa kaldırabiliyorsunuz. Fakat DPM’den aldığınız yedeği, farklı bir Network paylaşımına atıp, bu yedeği yeni kurduğunuz Windows sunucuya, cmd üzerinden Windows Backup komut satırı ile geri dönebilmektesiniz. Burada biraz zorluk olduğunu kabul etmeliyiz. System State yedeğinin, DPM’e ait Standalone bir exe ile geri döndürülmesi daha güzel olurdu.

DPM 2007′nin sahip olduğu bir çok güzel özelliğin yanında, bir çok eksik noktalar da mevcut. Umarım DPM’in yeni versiyonunda, bu hatalar düzeltilir ve kullanıcılardan gelen geri dönüşlere göre iyileştirme yaparlar. Windows Server 2008 R2 ile birlikte iyi bir DPM çıkması güzel olurdu.

Eseutil.exe x86 version for Data Protection Manager x86

You need Eseutil.exe and Ese.dll x86 versions for System Center Data Protection Manager (x86) to backup your Microsoft Exchange Server. As you know, you can’t use x64 files in DPM x86. If you don’t have any Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 x86 dvd and don’t want to download whole Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 (x86), you can obtain Eseutil.exe and Ese.dll x86 versions from this link:

DPM 2007 – Agent Operation Failed (ID 370)

You may get this error when you install DPM agent on target server:

Agent operation failed. (ID 370)
The agent operation failed because of a communication error with the DPM Agent Coordinator service on exc01.exchange.radore.net. (ID 319 Details: The RPC server is unavailable (0x800706BA))

Please check your firewall on target server. If firewall is off, check RPC service.

System Center Data Protection Manager Fails at Setup [SOLVED]

Installing Data Protection Manager was a real nightmare for me. I think (still thinking) DPM is the worst Microsoft product, I have ever used. Every time when I tried to install DPM, I always got this message:

The DPM database was not created.

User Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel to remove the DPM files and registry entries that were created during Setup. Verify that SQL Server is properly installed and that it is running, and then run Setup again.

I tried every way to fix this problem. I searched all over the internet and I found so many people who have exactly same problem like me. You can find exactly same problem from this post:

This problem occurs if your regional settings different from English and United States. I tested installation of DPM many times and finally fix it with changing regional settings to English.

After you change your location settings to United States and English, you can finish installation with no problem.

Probably this is a bug of Microsoft SQL Server. But I hated DPM because of this problem. I lost so much time, really!

Sancılı saatler! DPM 2007 ile Hyper-v Backup operasyonu..

Yaklaşık 5 saattir, sunucular üzerinde güncellemeler yapıyorum fakat bu zamana kadarki kısım tam bir karın ağrısıydı. Data Protection Manager’ın Hyper-V sunucularını Hyper-V volume olarak görmemesi üzerine güncelleme yapmak zorunda kaldım. Az önce Data Protection Manager SP1 güncellemesi bitti ve şuan Hyper-V sunucularındaki Windows Update, DPM Agent Update ve Hyper-V VSS Hotfix güncellemelerini yapmaya başladım. Data Protection Manager 2007 ile Hyper-V sunucularını yedekleyebilmek için öncelikle Service Pack1′i kurmalı ve Hyper-V sunucuları üzerinde KB959962 nolu güncellemeyi yapmalısınız. KB959962 nolu Hotfix’e aşağıdaki bağlantıdan ulaşabilirsiniz.

Bu işlemler sonrası Hyper-V üzerinden integration component’leri her vm için ayrı ayrı güncellemeniz gerekiyor. Linux gibi desteklenmeyen işletim sistemleri için sadece offline backup mümkün. Yine Windows 2000 gibi VSS özelliği olmayan sanal sunucularınız da offline yedeklenecek.

DPM 2007: The server X could not be found in active directory

You can get this error when you are trying to add DPM agent. Please check your firewall rules, maybe a firewall can block communication between DPM and your server. Also check your dns server, look for server record. You can check your active directory connections with “dcdiag /fix” if your server is an active directory server.
